Kenyan football legend Victor Wanyama conducted a masterclass session with the All-Stars team from Safaricom Chapa Simba Season 4 at the Ligi Ndogo Grounds in Nairobi.
The young players enjoyed both on-pitch and off-pitch priceless guidance from Wanyama as part of the build-up to the launch of Season 5 of Chapa Dimba which will be on 9th May in Kisumu County.
In a statement on May 1, 2026, Wanyama urged the young players to make the most of the opportunity before them, noting that structured platforms like the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Tournament were not available during his early years.
“If opportunities like Safaricom Chapa Dimba were available when I was starting out, I would have gone even further in my career. So, I urge the players to grab this opportunity with both hands, work hard as you never know who is watching.” said Wanyama.
Additionally, the captain Wanyama shared practical advice on how young players can elevate their game, emphasizing the importance of discipline, consistency, and always giving their best effort.
He urged the players to take care of their bodies as professional athletes and to cultivate strong mental habits that support long-term success.

Financial Literacy and Mentorship for Players
Other than football, Victor who recently announced his retirement from football, emphasized on the importance of financial literacy.
He urged the players to make smart financial decisions early in their careers and to embrace a culture of saving and investing, regardless of how small their earnings may be.
The session also included an interactive on-pitch segment, where Wanyama who is currently pursuing his UEFA coaching licenses engaged directly with the players.
He demonstrated drills and techniques while offering real-time feedback.
Safaricom Chapa Dimba
Chapa Dimba na Safaricom is a national football tournament for male and female youth aged between 16-20 years.
It aims to transform the lives of young people by giving them a platform to showcase their talent and an opportunity to earn from their passion.
The tournament will be open to both boys’ and girls’ teams and will begin with a nationwide registration phase across the following regions: Nairobi, Eastern, Western, Nyanza, Rift Valley, Coast, Central, and North Eastern.
In addition, each team will comprise of 15 players and 2 officials for the group stages. Proceeding teams will thereafter be allowed to recruit 3 additional players for the next level.
Ultimately, the winning teams in both the boys’ and girls’ categories will receive Ksh 1 million.

Career Profile: Victor Wanyama
Victor Wanyama is one of the Kenya’s most successful and highly respected football players.
He began his career at JMJ Youth Academy before playing for Nairobi City Stars and AFC Leopards, which paved the way for his move to Europe.
In Europe, Wanyama rose to prominence at Celtic, where he won two league titles and gained international recognition with standout performances, including in the UEFA Champions League against Barcelona.
Thereafter, he made history as the first Kenyan to play in the English Premier League with Southampton, before joining Tottenham Hotspur, where he featured prominently in midfield.
Internationally, he captained Kenya and represented the country at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, retiring from international football in 2021.
Wanyama ended his club career with CF Montréal before retiring from professional football in April 2026.
