Kenya Beyond Sight Brings Inclusive Adventure to Malindi Marine Park

Kenya Beyond Sight brought its Kenya Coast edition to Malindi Marine Park for a day of adventure, inclusion and celebration.

The day began on a sweet note with a birthday cake at Temple Point for Jsupercharge, Vision Bearer of Kenya Beyond Sight.

Afterwards, the creators gathered for a briefing by Ntindi Kassim, Senior Warden at KWS Malindi Marine Park, before setting out for an immersive snorkeling experience guided by trained boat crew from the local community.

A seafood lunch on a magical island in the middle of the Indian Ocean capped the afternoon, followed by song and dance as the celebrations continued.

Every participant took part in the full day’s activities including persons with visual impairment, albinism, and physical impairments reflecting the program’s core mission: showing that disability is no barrier to adventure, ocean exploration, or connection with nature.

Notably, Kenya Wildlife Service offers free entrance for persons with disabilities, a policy that continues to make experiences like this one more accessible across Kenya’s parks and marine reserves.

Excursions and transport for the day were curated by Accessible Travel Kenya.

Beyond Sight: Rethinking Destination Storytelling

Kenya Beyond Sight is a partnership between KCB, RUBiS Energy and the Kenya Tourism Board aimed at promoting more inclusive approaches to tourism and challenging conventional perceptions of disability and travel.

The initiative brings together six creators: J-Supercharge, Denno Music, Sammy Brayo, Nancy Cosy, Chelah Richards and Delvin Obara who are travelling through Eastern and Coastal Kenya over five days.

Rather than relying solely on visual storytelling, the campaign explores destinations through multiple senses and perspectives, offering a broader view of what it means to experience Destination Kenya.

The Malindi experience formed part of this journey, bringing that approach to the coast through marine exploration, community interaction and shared experiences.

KCB Cards Power a Cashless Journey

Beyond the experiences themselves, the campaign is also providing an opportunity for KCB to demonstrate how its digital payment solutions can support seamless travel.

Through the cards, the creators can make cashless payments during different stages of their journey, from accommodation and transport to dining and entry fees at attractions.

This positions the payment experience as another part of the campaign’s effort to make travel more convenient and seamless.

Speaking on the initiative, KCB Group Director, Marketing & Communication, Rosalind Gichuru, said the campaign reflects KCB’s commitment to using its brand purpose to create meaningful experiences and promote greater inclusion in tourism.

“At the same time, we are using the opportunity to showcase KCB’s seamless digital payment solutions through our Debit and Prepaid Cards which will be instrumental in supporting the Creators to make cashless transactions to cater for accommodation, transport dining and entry into attraction sites with an objective of reducing unnecessary friction when making payments.” She noted.

Making Destinations More Accessible

The campaign also underscores the need for accessibility to be considered across the tourism value chain.

Speaking on the campaign, KTB CEO June Chepkemei said the initiative reinforces the importance of making Kenya an inclusive and accessible destination for all visitors.

“This campaign gives us an opportunity not only to showcase the attractions of the Kenyan coast, but also to encourage the tourism industry to think more deeply about accessibility. It challenges accommodation providers, attractions, transport operators, tour companies and other stakeholders to ask an important question: How can we make it easier for every visitor to explore, participate and feel welcome?” She said.
