Safaricom Hook (S-Hook) has partnered with the Kambi Safi Community Initiative in Mathare to support four local football teams with football kits.
The program aims to create safe spaces for young people, nurture resilience, and demonstrate how sports can open pathways to opportunity and professional growth.
Speaking during the event, Kambi Safi Chairman Peter Njogu said that such initiatives help young people build confidence by giving them opportunities to showcase their talents.
He added that safe spaces and mentorship not only inspire hope but also steer young people away from negative influences while opening doors to their future.
“When young people are given safe spaces, mentorship and opportunities to showcase their talents, they begin to believe in their potential. Initiatives such as this inspire hope, build confidence, and help steer many young people away from negative influences while opening doors for their future,” he said.
Kambi Safi
Kambi Safi supports the True Colours Football Team, a grassroots program that trains and mentors over 200 boys and girls aged between 8 and 18 years.
Beyond football, the program provides psychological support to children who have experienced trauma, while nurturing values such as teamwork, discipline, confidence, and resilience.
Link to Safaricom Chapa Dimba Initiative
The S-Hook programme shares a similar objective with the Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournament in promoting youth empowerment through the discovery and development of football talent across the country.
Similarly, through initiatives like S-Hook and Chapa Dimba, Safaricom aims to connect with young people in informal settlements and encourage them to view sport not only as a recreational activity, but also as a viable career pathway.
As a result, this approach helps young people recognize the value of their abilities and how, with the right support systems, they can use their talents to improve their lives and positively impact their communities.

Match Highlights and Tournament Action
The event also featured two 7-aside tournaments, where the beneficiaries of the initiative, showcased their football talent and potential.
In the girl’s match, Beijing Raiders staged a comeback to secure a 3–1 victory over Flames FC at home.
However, a defining moment of the game was a well-taken penalty by the Raiders’ kicker that drew the match level.
On the other hand, the boys’ teams, Young Cranes faced True Colours FC in a tightly contested match dubbed the Mathare Youth Derby.
The Cranes took control early, leading 2–0 by halftime and maintaining their advantage until the final whistle.
Both sides were ultimately recognized for their performances with trophies awarded at the end of the matches.
Driving Awareness for Grassroots Football Development
The event also served as a platform to raise awareness among local teams about the Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournament and encourage participation in the competition.
Through the initiative, teams are given an opportunity to compete from the ward level, progressing through successive stages with the possibility of advancing to the national finals.
Additionally, the programme is designed to open up structured pathways for young players to gain exposure, develop their skills, and showcase their talent on larger competitive stages across the country.
